Abstract.The article describes the experience in developing the universal competences of Bachelor students, training Tourism. The project activity is considered as a means of developing universal and professional competences. The potential of the project model promotes the involvement of students and develops the communicative skills in oral form based on the project. The project work includes several stages aimed at increasing knowledge of cultural specificities and diversity of the region and training the skills how to work in a team. The review of the relevant literature and study of domestic and foreign experience on developing universal competences, as well the description of practices applying project technologies as an activity in the process foreign language teaching, interpretation and classification are the main methods of the research. The author analyzed the practice of the project method applied in teaching a language and described the stages involved while preparing group and individual projects by Bachelors of Tourism at the Volgograd State University. The results lead to the conclusion that the project method is an activity which allows going beyond the conventional teaching methods and speeding the student’s progress. Each stage of the project in a foreign language promotes the development of universal and basic professional competences.
