Abstract: Among the priority tasks of modern preschool education are the education of citizenship, patriotism and the formation of the identity of preschoolers. At the same time, the documents do not indicate a specific type of identity; only certain features are characterized. The purpose of this article is to determine the type and content of identity that needs to be formed in preschool children. The views of individual scientists on the interdisciplinary concepts of “identity”, “social identity”, “civic identity” are considered. The article highlights understanding of this category in the context of pedagogical activity, as well as its criteria for preschool children
