Abstract: The article explored the role of rational and irrational beliefs in academic motivation of medical students. The critical review of publications addressing this problem revealed psychocognitive and verbal patterns of behaviour typical of rationality/irrationality. Furthermore, the current scales for assessing irrational beliefs were analyzed. The authors suggested their own model adjusted to the academic context of a medical university. A detailed analysis of different types and subtypes of motivation found in the learning process of higher school students was performed. The following types were recognized: amotivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Their significant differences were also revealed. At the next stage we developed and conducted a web-based survey among 130 students of Volgograd State Medical University to evaluate the share of rational and irrational beliefs in their interim assessment motivation, namely, their views of the role of revision for exams in achieving the learning results, the importance of the achieved results, their impact on their social adaptability and the academic ambience comfort. The quantitative analysis of the obtained findings has demonstrated the presence of both rational and irrational beliefs in the students’ academic motivation. However, rational beliefs prevailed pertaining to some aspects which implied higher academic motivation to acquire professional competence. On the contrary, the presence of irrational beliefs indicated low or inadequate motivation, which may ultimately result in insufficient qualifications and burnout of future medical specialists. These data have highlighted the need for timely diagnosis and correction of irrational beliefs common to medical students in the process of learning.
Keywords: rational and irrational beliefs, academic motivation, medical university, rating scales, diagnosis and correction of irrational beliefs, psychocognitive and verbal behavioral characteristics.

Abstract: Nowadays, linguistic localization plays one of the most important roles in the field of video game translation. One of the most difficult issues is determining the boundaries of localization in view of the crossdisciplinarity of this sphere. The complexity of localization lies in the fact that this process is subject to multifaceted division into parts, which in turn includes a huge number of spheres and styles. A lot of scientists and specialists argue that this field is a separate discipline with its own technologies, tools, skills, structure and methods. However, upon detailed analysis and delving into this concept, it becomes obvious that localization is a process in which the translator uses absolutely all his skills and abilities, because localization includes a huge number of substyles and intercultural versatility. It is extremely important and necessary for a localizer to understand many areas and concepts, namely: cultural code, ethnic groups, interface, dates, etc. The linguistic localization process also includes adapting currency symbols, date formats, addresses, numbers, choosing palettes and color schemes, and revising the physical structure of the product. The purpose of the article is to study the linguistic localization of the video game Assassin's Creed II from English into Russian. The paper focuses on the semantic errors and inaccuracies in the translation of monologues, dialogues and text inserts. Possible causes of errors are considered and options for correcting them are proposed.
Keywords: localization, videogame content translation, plot, dialogues between characters, semantic errors and inaccuracies, adequate translation.
