Abstract. The institution of family and marriage is undergoing changes in its structure due to the abolition of the prestige and value of the family, as well as due to changes in socio-economic conditions. As a result of all this, the number of divorces is increasing, alternative forms of marriage and family relations are spreading, reproductive attitudes are decreasing, and the ideas about the family role of women and men are changing. This situation confirms the relevance of the study, which consists in the fact that ideas and values about the ideal partner are radically changing. In this connection, problems arise at the stage of building a family, both for men and women, which arise from ignorance of the needs of the partner. For satisfaction with marriage, an important condition is the consideration of significant aspects of family life and each other's values. In the present work, using the questionnaire compiled on the basis of the results of a pilot study, the method of descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance, the ideal image of the partner was identified in view of modern youth. Some significant characteristics of the image of an ideal partner were established. In general, the ideal image of the wife, embodies the same personality traits inherent in the ideal image of the mother, as well as such quality as fidelity. Against the background of the ideal image of the mother and wife, the image of the ideal partner is not considered as an object for a long relationship, which in turn can only speak of a sexual orientation in the relationship. It was revealed that girls have higher requirements for the image of father and husband than for the image of a partner, presumably these images are idealized. The level of claims will be higher when it comes to serious long-term relationships. The data obtained can be useful in comprehensive programs of education and the formation of values of family life among adolescents and students.

Key words: ideal image, values, family, gender roles, family values.

Considering the partnership and partner selection factors should be considered variations of the respondents with different sexual orientation nowadays. Identifying features of the image of young people with a heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual orientation of an ideal partner given the parent image, it is the aim of this study.
